This watch has all the essentials-stopwatch, alarm, date, indiglo light. There are 2 alarms-every 12 hours and one will sound every 60 minutes. The 1/20 second subdial at the 2 o’clock position does not run in real time. When you stop the chronograph, it goes to the approriate fraction of a second. The 10 o’clock subdial is the stopwatch minutes. It will go to 30 minutes then start over. If you need to time something more than 30 min, you’ll need to keep track of how may times the hand has been around. The second hand counts the seconds on the stopwatch. The 6 ‘clock subdial is for timekeeping seconds. There’s luminous paint on hands and markers, but the Indiglo light is far better for night viewing. The stopwatch also has lap/split timing. There’s also night mode. The indiglo light will light for about 3 seconds with the push of any button. And you can adjust the hour hand only without tampering with the minutes-great for daylight saving time adjustments.
This chronograph is a good and reliable stop watch with a split timing function. It also has a good alarm. The buttons are robust, meaning they don’t catch on anything and tear or start the chronograph. It’s attractive looking and doesn’t cost that much.
The only draw back is that the chronograph function doesn’t have an hour marker on it. After 30 minutes elapsed you’ve got to keep a running total in your head.
Ever since I bought my first Timex Expedition watch with Easy-set alarm, I’ve been hooked. I really prefer an analog dial to a digital watch, and the Easy-set alarm is so intuitive that I actually use it all the time. I guess that one drawback is that it doesn’t last forever; the last couple of watches I had I replaced after a few years because the alarms became unreliable (didn’t always go off). However, I didn’t really expect immortality from a $40-$60 watch.
I purchased this model because I was looking for a metal watchband. My problem with the leather bands is that after a while they begin to stink and it is sometimes difficult to find a replacement band that fits exactly. This watch is a little busier than I need (I really don’t need the stop watch features); if Timex offered a slimmer, simpler model with Easy-set alarm and metal band, I’d be all over that!
